FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS
The material below
covers most of the
aspects defining
a typical Skyway
Auto transaction
on your behalf. For
additional questions,
feel free to call
us at (203) 545-5366, email
us, or fax our
office at 1-775-521-6180
WHERE IS YOUR OFFICE?
My main place of
business is in Fort
Lauderdale, FL. I also
have a branch office
in the Northeast, in
Stratford, CT. Skyway
Auto is exclusively
in the car-buying service
business. I operate
as a fully licensed,
fully-bonded, automobile
dealer.
DO I GET TO SEE A
CAR FIRST OR PICK IT
OUT?
You can get to see
the car first if you
come to the auction(s)
with me or my employes.
We will be happy to
have you accompany
us to the dealer auctions.
Or, you can describe
the car to us and we
will do a search, determine
that the car is available
(which it usually is,
since we have thousands
of cars to choose from).
Later, when we are
at the auction, if
we locate the car you
seek, we will be contacting
you to describe the precise features
of the vehicle(s) located:
make, year, color,
options, accessories
and general condition.
WHERE DO I PICK THE
CAR UP? AT THE AUCTION
ITSELF?
The car can be picked
up at the auction location
by you, or Skyway Auto
will make the necessary
arrangements, depending
on the logistics and
proximity, to have
it shipped to the destination
you specify.
WHEN AND WHERE DO
I PAY FOR THE CAR?
Prior to purchasing
the car you'll give
a good description
of the vehcile you
seek. I will then proceed
to do research on the
assigned vehicle. Upon
finding what you are
looking for, then I
would determine when
the vehicle is going
to be ready to be sold
at auction and where.
Prior to the day of
me or any of my accredited
associates going to
the auction, two days
prior to be precise,
I will need a wire
transfer into my Skyway
Auto [escrow] bank
account for 40 % (percent)
of what I determine
to be the probable
[estimated] sale price
of the car at the auction.
Next, after I or any
accredited Skyway Auto
staff purchases the
vehicle on your behalf,
on the day of the sale,
I will notify you that
we have indeed purchased
the vehicle assigned,
and that we now need
you to wire the remainder
of the total cost. Please
note that the wiring
of the balance of the
funds must take place
on the same day of
the auction purchase.
Auctions only take
place on weekdays,
hence bank days, so
there is usually no
problem for any of
our clients to transfer
funds to our account
to cover the balance
of the purchase.
CAN THE PRICE GO
A BIT HIGHER THAN THE
ESTIMATED COST?
The final actual
price can be a bit
higher or lower; that's
the nature of auctions.
In any case we would
not proceed to zero
in on a purchase beyond
the parameters suggested
by your budgeted amount,
and, most importantly, we
will not buy a car
without prior checking
with you on the precise
final price. In
other words, you have
our assurance that
we will not buy beyond
the agreed on estimated
price(s) without your
express permission.
HOW LONG DOES IT
[USUALLY] TAKE YOU
TO FIND A VEHICLE?
The search normally
takes from one week
to two weeks, but some
special searches may
take longer, up to
four weeks. Finding
any car at its regular
price is easy; finding
that same car at a
substantial saving
off the average price
is a different story.
In any case, the maximum
time would be about
4 weeks. Put a different
way, in general it
takes about a week
to find the vehicle
and another week to
ship it to its final
destination.
WHAT ABOUT THE HIDDEN
COSTS--i.e., DELIVERY
FEES, TAXES, etc.
Your [final] cost
will be the cost of
the vehicle at the
auction price, with
an inspection fee which
is included in this
cost, the Skyway Auto
service fee, as previously
explained projected
on the basis of the
cost of the vehicle,
and shipping costs,
if any.
WILL THE FINAL PRICE
BE LESS THAN AT A DEALER'S,
IN OTHER WORDS HOW
MUCH CAN I SAVE?
Even when offering "good
deals," many dealerships
are not able to depart
too far from average
retail prices. In our
case, we are selling
from the start at WHOLESALE prices,
plus our fee and incidental
expenses added on,
as outlined above.
This means that you'll
probably end up saving
from $1000 to $4000,
per vehicle, depending
on the price level
of the chosen vehicle,
as opposed to purchasing
the same car at retail.
As a rule, the higher
the price, the bigger
the saving.
HOW CAN SKYWAY AUTO
AFFORD TO DO THIS AT
WHOLESALE
PRICES?
The main reason is
that we work on volume
and on small profit
margins. We do not
focus for our bottom
line on just one sale,
but on a large number
of satifisfied customers.
In practice, each purchase
is a totally customized operation.
WHAT RECOURSE DO
I HAVE IF THE CAR TURNS
OUT TO BE A LEMON?
IS THERE A WARRANTY?
WILL THE TRANSACTION
BE FINAL AS IS?
As far as Skyway
Auto is concerned,
all sales are final, "as
is." However,
the client is protected
by a number of provisions:
First, we recommend
to our clients that
all cars we purchase
should be put through
a thorough inspection
right at the auction,
by qualified mechanics.
This inspection warrants
the vehicle for a full
7 days, covering transmission
(drivetrain), motor,
rear end, and the structural
integrity (frame) of
the unit. In this manner,
all cars leave the
auction site certified
for a full week, during
which the customer
can perform his or
her own tests at leisure.
Should the vehicle
be found to have a
major defect or malfunction
in the warranted areas,
which is a rare occurrence,
the customer has ample
time to file for a
refund or compensation.
COULD YOU SPECIFY
YOUR FEE SCHEDULE?
Very simple. Anything
under $20,000 is $750;
for vehicles $20,000
and above is $1,000.
WHAT ARE THE CHANCES
OF GETTING THE MAKE,
MODEL, COLOR I WANT?
DO YOU ACCEPT SECOND
CHOICES?
As previously stated,
the chances of finding
the car you want are very
good. I'd say 99%
good. There are simply
many, many cars to
choose from. Now, do
we accept "second
choices," that
is vehicles that would
satisfy your assignment
if the primary choice
proves unavailable?
The answer to this
is an unqualified yes.
Besides, the customer
can come to the auction,
so this process can
be rendered much easier
by their presence.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE
CAR IS DAMAGED DURING
SHIPPING?
The damages are covered
by the shipping (tranportation)
company insurance.
WHAT KIND OF PAPERWORK
WILL I GET TO REGISTER
MY NEW CAR?
You'll get a bill
of sale, a title, and
a dealer reassignment
certificate, in short
all the legal documents
required to register
a vehicle anywhere
in the US. In turn,
I will need from you
a copy of your driver's
license and an insurance
card. All paperwork
should be "FedExed," or "overnighted," if
necessary.
WILL I BE ADVISED
WHEN THE AUCTIONS YOU
WILL BE ATTENDING [ON
MY BEHALF] WILL TAKE
PLACE?
Yes! You'll be kept
abreast of everything
going on. We maintain
very close communications
with the client once
the process is on.
THE REASON FOR MY
QUESTION IS THAT I
SUPPOSE YOU'LL WANT
TO KNOW WHERE TO LOCATE
ME ON THE DAY OF THE
AUCTION, IN CASE TO
NEED TO CHECK UP WITH
ME VARIOUS POINTS RELATING
TO THE PURCHASE.
Yes, we'll keep you
informed at all times.
EXACTLY, WHEN DID
YOU SAY I HAVE TO WIRE
YOU THE REST OF THE
MONEY?
When we locate the
vehicle you want, where
it is, etc., and how
much the estimated
value of the car will
be, you'll have to
remit 40% of the projected
cost into my Skyway
Auto bank account, at
the latest one day
prior to the auction
date. Then I will
go to the auction.
Once I'm at the auction,
and purchase the target
vehicle, I will call
you and tell you what
the total cost will
be. I will then need
you to wire me the
rest of the funds that
very day. Of course,
you can wire everything
before we go to the
auction.
IF YOU CALL ME AFTER
3 PM, WHEN MY BANK
HAS ALREADY CLOSED,
CAN I WIRE YOU THE
MONEY THE NEXT DAY?
Yes. In case you
cannot get to the bank
on the auction day,
when we purchase the
car on your behalf,
you will have an extra
business day to remit
the rest of the funds
in order to keep the
transaction live.
